Our Place in the Sun

How’s the weather in your neck of the woods?
Up here people talk of winter and I’m beginning to wonder what they mean. Yesterday Sarah (from Michigan) and I (from Tassie) went for a swim and the locals were amazed that we’d be braving the elements as the weather has been getting colder lately, by their reckoning.

The water temperature up here is @23 degrees and the air temp has been between 24-26 degrees. So we are wondering just how ‘cold’ it really does get up here!!!!

Phil and I went for a drive to check out the mountain behind our home called North Brother. The views from the top are spectacular. We wandered along a couple of trails through rain forest on the top of the mountain enjoying the views until I felt something squishy on the side of my foot. Yep, you guessed it, a leech had latched on. Phil, my knight in shining armour, saved the day and safely removed him while I was fussing and fretting. Wouldn't happen, who me? Can't stand the little blighters!

We rather enjoy our little house on the hill. We soak up the sunshine while we eat breakfast and lunch out on the verandah and I’m impressed with the smaller loads of washing, rooms that stay tidy most of the time and less shoes at the back door. Such is the season of life for us now that all our boys have moved out of home though we miss them and call them lots whether they need it or not.

Living here on the base with many other families is fun, lots of informal gatherings, games nights, children to hug and talk to and the encouragement of being part of community.
There is the balance of respect for space and privacy as well which we appreciate too.
It hasn’t taken long for us to pick up some jobs to do around the place.

Phil and I have been helping the Go Tribal team establish their ministries. We’ve dubbed them the ‘dream team’ as they are such an amazing and vibrant trio who have committed to developing new ways of inspiring churches and individual Christians throughout Australia to discover God’s heart for missions.
From left to right in the photo: Sarah Asman (from Melbourne), us (Tassie), Sarah and Grant Wright (Michigan and Western Australia) and Ross Nancarrow (Port)
We have also been working with the other departments here at the Australian Headquarters assisting them in the formulation and review of strategic planning processes.
Phil as a member of the Board of Directors has been involved in meetings and follow-up work involving researching visa possibilities for overseas students who want to come to Australia and train here at the Centre. There are many mission minded Christians in Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries further afield who have expressed interest in learning cross-cultural church planting methods so they can return to Asia and reach the many people groups in their countries.
We are gradually settling in and finding our place among the community here. As the weeks and months go by we continue to pick up various jobs that need doing and hopefully make the load a little less for those here who have put in the hard yards over the years.
Saw the Today Show this week in Burnie. Was great to see Creative Paper featured and the Choir in the new restaurant down on the beach. Felt very nostalgic and homesick. Heard about the burning of the Adult Ed. building and was saddened by the news. Can't imagine that beautiful old building not being there anymore. I wonder what will happen to Creative Paper as they were looking forward to the move. I enjoyed my time working with them as a Tour Guide. Hope the future turns out well for them, despite this set-back. Well that's all for this week.

Can't believe you still had some of Leonie's biscuits! How many did she pack for you? :-) Love the photos and if you keep it up, Zane & I will be up before you know it - unless more of our kids get engaged or married.
