The Camden Haven area never ceases to surprise and amaze us. Each day last week we saw pairs of eagles soaring and circling in beautiful clear blue skies. Sunday afternoon I visited a favourite beach to spend some time reading my Bible and praying. I looked up to see a majestic sea eagle soaring above the beach and watched as he came down to the water to grab a fish.
His or her mate was soaring not far above at the other end of the beach. I stood and watched them, absorbed by their majestic beauty as they soared effortlessly in the bluest of sky.
My tiny little camera was not quite up to capturing them in the moment, but I tried.
My tiny little camera was not quite up to capturing them in the moment, but I tried. God has a way of capturing my heart and imagination in such moments and I can't help but feel that He was right there with me on the beach that afternoon.
The next couple of days, Phil and I spotted eagles soaring out over Queen’s Lake that we see from our verandah. We sat with coffee in hand and watched them searching the waters below for movement.
On Thursday while driving down to Sydney for the day, Sarah and I saw two huge darker coloured eagles flying around a hill that had been recently burnt. The hinterland along the North Coast has majestic escarpments and deep valleys that are safe havens for the large eagles to nest.

I was saddened by a news report in the same week telling of the carcass of an eagle being found dead and mutilated with the 'proud' hunter chopping off the legs of the eagle to take home as a trophy of the kill. It's hard to understand or accept that people view such creatures as targets for their amusement and ego. We all see the same things but view them so differently. Guess that is life?!
Sarah Asman, our Go Tribal Coordinator was attending a planning meeting in Sydney which is a four hour drive each way from Laurieton so I hung along for the ride to keep her company and help with navigating through Sydney traffic.
I rather enjoy checking through the street maps and finding the quickest way to a location. There is a sense of achievement, (little things I know!) in finding your way through the maze of roads, traffic, lights and buildings.
Spending time inching forward bumper to bumper in peak hour traffic in the late afternoon made me realise how much time people spend stuck in traffic every day in big cities. You'd really want some great music or tapes to distract and ease the frustration of waiting day after day after day. What a lifestyle eh!
Phil and I are enjoying life here, the new challenges, the new adventures, the people, the work here for us and the opportunities to stretch, grow and change. We are aware of God's invitation to get out of our comfort zone and try some new directions. Phil is working on developing an internet business which we hope, will, when it gets going, provide some funds to help us continue to volunteer our time to our ministries with NTM. I too am giving a business venture a go and will let you know some more about that in the next post.
Our roles here as Ministry Coordinators will involve helping all the departments to function at their best. We are working with them to develop strategic plans, leadership development, team building and coordination. We find that in our role we are a bit like the eagles, needing to soar up high so we can see better what is around us. As we take up our place in the picture here at NTM we want to not strive or flap but soar freely. Being who we are just cause that's how God made us. Watch with us, pray for us as we take our place and do our part in God's kingdom.
Eagle spotting, praying, celebrating being part of something bigger than ourselves is what we love to do.Thanks for tracking with us.
