Day Trip to Ellenborough Falls
Day Trip to Ellenborough Falls

Call us crazy explorers or daggy day trippers, but we decided, on a rather homesick sort of day, to visit the mountains admired by us while having our coffee on the veranda each morning.

We set off armed with maps, sustenance, ie Leonie's biscuits, camera, lots of curiosity and headed west up through the valleys onto the ridges and mountain ranges.
First we found a beautiful macadamia nut farm with
great coffee and macadamia nut rocky road. Rather enticing eh? Oh, and they had a rather interesting way of labelling the toilets: His nuts, Her nuts and Mixed Nuts! Puts a whole new spin on Disabled toilets eh?

Puts a whole new spin on Disabled toilets eh? From there we drove high into the mountains along windy roads through lush dairy country, tropical rain forests, deep gorges and cliffs, orchards and lovely small towns, until we reached Ellenborough Falls. It's like the Jacky's Marsh of NSW with the obligatory dreadlocks and beards, and that's for the women! Only joking! Sort of!
We decided against the 640 odd steps to the bottom of the falls and chose to stroll, around the top.(Ok we confess to being the daggy day trippers!) Hey, we aren’t getting any younger you know!
After admiring the amazing falls we thought we’d look for an alternative route home. (This is the crazy explorer bit right?) The map must have been faulty, ‘cause we got lost, eventually finding our way through a number twists and turns on an old track that had only seen farm tractors and wandering cows, who we had to dodge and nudge to get out of the way.

We made it down the mountain to find a beautiful stream and a tree covered in giant stag horns and another where it looked like the poor cow had got his horns stuck, or maybe it was a warning to lost travellers to keep out! We were definitely in hillbilly territory but eventually returned to civilisation. The day away was a welcome change of pace from the previous three days of meetings as part of the GO Tribal Short Term Team planning. We have three new members in the team and so many new ideas and plans for the future. We’ll write more about our ministries next time.

Great to hear what you've been up to. Been trying to work out how to contact you so this looks like the best way? I couldn't believe the speed at which you left... thought you had a few months to go yet, but wow time flies doesn't it! Hope you're finding the work fulfilling and homesickness not too frequent.
Your blog is great!

Good to see that you've been out an about exploring the local area. You definitely fit in the 'daggy day trippers' description. :)
You guys are a blessing to the Laurieton staff.
